To apply to a UCF study abroad program follow these steps:
Step 1: Register in the study abroad online system. This will register you as a prospective student and does not commit you to any programs or fees. The data you provide us will ensure that you get the appropriate information about programs, updated processes, deadlines, orientations, information sessions and other activities.
Step 2: Read the Study Abroad Handbook. Discuss your goals and expectations with your academic advisor, financial aid, your parents or significant others, former study abroad students, etc. Assess all of your options. A meeting with your academic advisor is required of all participants.
Step 3: Select a program. After you have informed yourself and evaluated your options, log into the study abroad online system and select the program that best fits your academic and personal goals. Program options differ, so read carefully and follow the online instructions. You do not have to complete the entire application at one time. You may save your input and continue later. After you have submitted your selection the Faculty Director will be notified. The process to select the participants for a program may take some time, but once the faculty director has made a decision you will receive a notice that says you were approved, declined or that you were placed on a wait-list.
Step 4: Re-confirm and complete forms. If you are approved you will be asked to log into your account and re-confirm your commitment to the program. After you re-confirm you will be assessed a $100 non-refundable application deposit for short term programs or a $350 fee for semester exchange programs. All study abroad fees will be posted to your MyUCF student account and you will be able to pay them as you do any other fees owed to the university. Please do not mail a check to the Office of International Studies. Please see the dates listed on your program page for all of the deadlines for payment.
Complete all requested forms and maintain current contact information. All official business will be conducted through your Knights email account. You are also expected to attend the pre-departure orientations.
Step 5: GO ABROAD!
Step 6: Let us know about your experience. One week prior to the close of your program you will receive an email from International Studies requesting that you complete the online program evaluation. We appreciate you taking the time to complete the short questionnaire as we use this feedback to help us assess our services and the quality of the programs.
We will also invite you to attend a workshop on How to Articulate the Benefit of Your Study Abroad to either potential employers or graduate programs.
If you would like to meet with study abroad staff to discuss any part of this process, please attend a Study Abroad Basics, Cultural Orientations or contact the Office of International Studies to make an appointment (407) 882-2300.
