- Country Introduction:
India, officially the Republic of India is located in South Asia and is considered the second-most populous country in the world. India is surrounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the west and the Bay of Bengal on the east and is bordered by Pakistan to the west, Bhutan, the People’s Republic of China and Nepal to the north. India consists of 28 states and 7 Union Territories.
India’s total area is roughly 3,287,260 square kilometers and the total land area is 3,060,500 square kilometers. There are three distinct regions: The Indo-Gangetic Plain, the Himalayas (in North India) and the Peninsula (South India). India’s diverse terrain consists of highland plains, deserts and river valleys. The climate in India varies significantly from snow-capped mountains in the north to the tropics in the south.
