As an enhancement to its Education and Human Sciences curriculum, the College of Education has developed a unique study abroad program for Graduate (Master and PhD) and Undergraduate students at UCF.
The course will be designed to educate students on the effects of sexual and physical violence perpetrated on women living in South Africa. More than 50,000 cases are reported to the criminal justice system each year, a mere fraction of the actual cases actually experienced by women.
Interested students will be educated and trained to provide consultation, training, and counseling to agencies, volunteers, victims, and survivors as they pertain to the effects of violent behavior. This experiential program will provide a nice backdrop for students as they learn the fundamentals of outreach and begin working with individuals, groups, and agencies dealing with this international crisis. Those students interested in research will have opportunities to setup an IRB approved study prior to departure on trip.
This program will include visits to Kruger National Park, Robben’s Island, and tours of Cape Town, Table Mountain, Soweto, and Botswana. There will also be opportunities to shop and explore Johannesburg throughout the stay.
Students on this program should plan on arriving in Cape Town, South Africa by 9:30PM on the starting day of the program in order to be in country to transfer to the hotel. Please note, check flight schedules carefully before booking. To arrive by 9:30PM on the starting day of the program, flights must depart the USA the day before the start of the program.
