As an enhancement to its Russian language curriculum, the College of Arts and Humanities has developed a study abroad program for undergraduate students interested in Russian Language and Culture at UCF.

This program offers students an excellent opportunity of full linguistic and cultural immersion to enhance Russian language skills. For this program, students are required to register for one language course and one culture course. Russian language courses are available for students at any language level. 

The Russian Language and Culture Program will be hosted by the Russian State University for the Humanities in Moscow, Russian Federation.  Classes will take place in the mornings, with afternoons dedicated to activities proposed by the host institution and visits to different sites with the program director.  

While abroad, students can expect a formal classroom experience for the language classes. The culture class will include visits to local sites. Students will be evaluated through regular examinations and class participation.

Participants will travel to Moscow, Russian Federation for 3-4 weeks of classes. Cultural visits in Moscow include the Kremlin and Red Square, Tretiakov Gallery, Pushkin Museum, Sparrow Hills, Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Novodevichy Convent, Tsaritsyno as well as an overnight weekend to St. Petersburg.  While abroad, students are expected to speak in Russian, remain engaged in the program’s experiences, and try new things.  
 
Students on this program should plan to arrive in Moscow, Russia by noon on the starting day of the program in order to be in country to transfer to the accommodations.  Please note, check flight schedules carefully before booking.  To arrive by noon on the starting day of this program, fights must depart the USA the day before the start of the program.  Students are encouraged not to purchase their flights until after the application deadline and the applicants have been informed that the program has met its minimum numbers.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Improve upon Russian Language comprehension in conversation, reading and writing
  • Identify and discuss meanings in relationship to the context of a conversation or text, including non-verbal clues
  • Explore cultural differences and similarities between the Russian Federation and USA
  • Recognize appropriate use of language in different cultural contexts (formal, casual, generational)
  • Enhance knowledge of Russian history, music, and art
  • Describe non-verbal cues for the Russian Federation
  • Gain exposure to diverse social values and intellectual atmospheres
  • Recognize and describe cultural norms for the country
  • Experience cultural immersion with excursions throughout the Russian Federation
