As a supplement to its curriculum, the Department of Anthropology has designed a study abroad program for undergraduate and graduate students interested in archaeology at UCF.
This course is designed to teach students the essential knowledge of archaeological field methods necessary for excavations and help them explore the pre-Columbian indigenous people of the West Indies.
Participants will travel to the Bahamian island of Inagua for 16 days of archaeological study and excavations. Students will participate in excavations that will provide further insight into the culture of this society and the environment of pre-contact West Indies.
Students will register for a total of 3 credit hours and will be evaluated through regular participation and a written paper after returning to the USA.
This program is open to all undergraduate and graduate students, although an anthropology background is preferred. While in the Bahamas, students are expected to remain engaged in the program’s experiences and try new things.
Students on this program should plan to arrive in Nassau, The Bahamas on the starting day of the program and will make their own arrangements to get a taxi to the hotel accommodations. Students are encouraged not to purchase their flights until after the application deadline and the applicants have been informed that the program has met its minimum numbers.
