Program Description:

The UCF College of Engineering and Computer Science student exchange at Westfälische Hochschule (formerly Gelsenkirchen) takes place in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Westfälische Hochschule was founded under the name Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences in August of 1992. Westfälische Hochschule, University of Applied Sciences lays special emphasis on job-related training, which helps transition theory to practice. The university houses a student population more than 7500, 340 of which are international students.

Gelsenkirchen is situated at the north of the Ruhr region in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Gelsenkirchen is located near major cities such as Dusseldorf and Cologne. The city features historical buildings, museums, castles, theatres and parks.

Minimum Requirements:
  • UCF GPA: 2.75 cumulative
  • Must be an engineering major with completed prerequisite courses      
  • Fluency in German with Knowledge of engineering terminology
  • Must be in good standing (academic, conduct and financial) with UCF
  • Must be registered full time while participating in the exchange
  • Must be a junior or senior at the time of exchange
  • Must have at least one semester left to graduate, upon returning from your semester abroad

Application Requirements:

You can apply online for this program. The application includes the submittal of a brief essay (500 words) that clearly describes your academic and personal goals, as well as how this program would further them. We recommend you work on your essay outside the application environment and then paste it on the appropriate field.

Selected participants must meet with their Academic Advisor to discuss and register for the appropriate coursework. Coursework completed through the program may count as equivalent UCF course credit and/or as restricted or general elective credit.

All applications will be reviewed by the UCF College of Engineering and Computer Science and selected applicants will be notified of how to follow up. Assessment of the applications will be based on the academic qualifications of the applicant, as well as fit with the courses that the applicant has taken.
