China is located in Eastern Asia, bordering the East China Sea, Korea Bay, Yellow Sea and South China Sea, between North Korea and Vietnam. Considered one of the world’s oldest civilizations, China has grown to become the world’s most populous country.
China is south of Mongolia and the Siberian land mass, west of the Korean peninsula and insular Japan, north of Southeast Asia and east of Central and South Asia. China has a total area of roughly 9,596,960 square kilometers. Mountains cover 33% of China’s landmass, plateaus 26%, basins 19%, plains 12% and hills 10%. China has 5 main mountain ranges and seven of its mountain peaks exceed 8,000 meters above sea level. The climate in China varies. Temperate zones range from the cold-temperate north to the tropical south.
