Japan Meikai

Program Description:

The College of Arts and Humanities has a reciprocal student exchange program with Meikai University in Chiba, Japan. Meikai University was founded in 1988 and has an enrollment of about 1,200 students. Meikai offers an intensive Japanese language program for Japanese language students who have completed Intermediate Japanese Language II by the start date of their exchange. The Department of Japanese at Meikai University aims to foster students to accurately understand and transmit the Japanese language and culture.
Chiba is the capital city of Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It is located approximately 40 kilometers (25 mi) southeast of the center of Tokyo and it is the 14th most populated city in Japan.

Chiba is famous for the Chiba Urban Monorail, the longest suspended monorail in the world. Chiba has a humid subtropical climate with very warm summers and cool winters. Precipitation is significant throughout the year, but is somewhat lower in winter.

Minimum Requirements:
  • GPA: 3.0 Cumulative
  • Must have completed Intermediate Japanese Language II by the start date of their exchange
  • Must be in good standing (academic, conduct and financial) with UCF
  • Must be registered full time while participating in the exchange
  • Must be a junior or senior at the time of exchange
  • Must have at least one semester left to graduate, upon returning from your semester abroad
