UCF Barcelona Center Inaugural Scholarship

UCF Abroad, along with the entire UCF Global unit, is committed to expanding accessibility to High Impact Practices. UCF Abroad is excited to offer this scholarship opportunity to support students seeking to study abroad through participation in the UCF Barcelona Center program.
Both the number and amount of awards may vary depending on factors such as available funding and recommendations from the selection committee.
Selection Criteria
In order to be considered for this award applicants must also meet the following basic criteria;
- Applicant must be enrolled at the university full-time
- Applicant must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the university
- Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Applicant must attend one of the required program information sessions
- Applicant must be applied and accepted to the UCF Barcelona Center summer program
- Applicant must complete all application procedures listed below by the stated deadline
Application Procedures
Applications must be submitted in accordance with the deadlines established for the UCF Abroad International Studies Scholarships.
To apply, students must Complete the appropriate award application on UCF Abroad’s website and
- Submit a Statement of Purpose with a length not exceeding 1,200 words or 2.5 pages single-spaced that answers the following questions. Students are encouraged to go beyond superficial responses to provide a narrative that sets them apart from other students applying.
- What are your personal and professional motivations for applying to the UCF Barcelona Center program specifically?
- Most students could use financial assistance to help with the costs of studying abroad. Describe your current financial aid resources might not meet the costs of studying abroad and why this award would have the most significant impact on you specifically.
- What impact do you believe international travel will have on your path to a degree at UCF?
- UCF Abroad seeks to encourage all UCF students to study abroad and is committed to supporting students that have been historically underrepresented in international programs. How will your participation on the UCF Barcelona Center program help to more accurately reflect the diversity of the UCF community abroad?*
- *Unrepresented includes but is not limited to, first-generation college students, students in STEM fields, racial and ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, military veterans, disciplines with lower study abroad participation, and more.
Award Contingency
All students selected to receive an award must commit to a Global Ambassadorship upon return term here to UCF, participating in a minimum of 3 events hosted by the UCF Abroad office to share your experience and mentor students that wish to study abroad in the future.
Additionally, all students selected to receive an award must commit to regularly documenting their study abroad experience through UCF social media and publication channels, providing content for a minimum of one post per week. All scholarship winners agree to have their name and award publicize in UCF Abroad print and digital publications.
Selection Process and Timeline
After the scholarship application deadline, the following selection process commences;
All applications undergo an initial review by both the UCF Abroad to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria listed above. For those applications that meet the application requirements by submitting all of the required materials, a committee review process starts.
All applications are reviewed by a committee, with membership selected from the UCF Abroad office.
The committee members rank scholarship applications using a common rubric based on the selection criteria.
A list of awardees is then generated based on the committee's rankings and feedback as well as the pool of available funding at that time, which may vary.
Recommendations for final awards are then forwarded to the appropriate units for processing, this could take 3-5 weeks depending on the time of year as well as other factors.
