The original institution was called Thuringisches Technikum, founded in 1984. The name was changed to the Hochshule fur Elktrotechnik (Ilmenau University of Technology) in 1953. With about 6,500 students, this university is a public institution of higher education, recognized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany. The University occupies a leading position both nationally and internationally in the fields of research, both pure and applied. Their system relies upon interdisciplinary work across faculty boundaries, and brings together many realted skills.
Ilmenau city is a market town situated in a valley of the Ilm located on the northerly side of the Thuringer Wald. This area is popular for tourists, who are interested in skiing during winters or simply enjoying the scenic areas during the summer. The nearest big large is Erfurt, the capital of Thuringer. Erfurt has a medieval town center, an opera house, pubs and restaurants.
- UCF GPA: 2.75 cumulative
- Must be an engineering major with completed prerequisite courses
- Fluency in German with Knowledge of engineering terminology
- Must be in good standing (academic, conduct and financial) with UCF
- Must be registered full time while participating in the exchange
- Must be a junior or senior at the time of exchange
- Must have at least one semester left to graduate, upon returning from your semester abroad

You can apply online for this program. The application includes the submittal of a brief essay (500 words) that clearly describes your academic and personal goals, as well as how this program would further them. We recommend you work on your essay outside the application environment and then paste it on the appropriate field.
Selected participants must meet with their Academic Advisor to discuss and register for the appropriate coursework. Coursework completed through the program may count as equivalent UCF course credit and/or as restricted or general elective credit.
All applications will be reviewed by the College of Engineering and selected applicants will be notified of how to follow up. Assessment of the applications will be based on the academic qualifications of the applicant, as well as fit with the courses that the applicant has taken.
