The University of Central Florida offers a study abroad program open to any student at UCF interested in Spanish language and culture. This program is an excellent opportunity for students to enhance their Spanish language proficiency through experiencing an immersive linguistic environment, while also offering them extensive coursework in a number of other fields of study. The program is hosted by the Instituto Franklin at the Universidad de Alcalá. Located in Alcalá de Henares, the hometown of Miguel de Cervantes, the University is grounded in a long history of Spanish literary tradition dating back to its founding in 1499. With a student body of about 26,000, the school has expanded to include a number of disciplines, including engineering, architecture, health sciences, and many others. Coursework ranges from traditional language and culture classes to such fields as Humanities, Political Science, International Relations, and Business Administration, among others. The Spanish language courses are designed for students with intermediate to near-native fluency.
In addition to its history of academic excellence, Alcalá de Henares is also the capital of the Comarca de Alcalá region and is about 30km from Madrid (about 35min by train or bus), providing students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in various aspects of Spanish culture. Considered a relaxing and safe college town, students can get around Alcalá easily and enjoy the beauty of its historic buildings and plazas as they immerse themselves in the history, language, and culture of Spain.
