Program Description:

The Latin American Studies program, in partnership with the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola, is offering a high impact/low-cost Spring Break program in Cusco, Peru.  Students will be introduced to the history, culture, language, biodiversity and future perspectives of Peru and the Latin American realm. This program is uniquely structured to provide students with an exciting hybrid experience by combining the touring of culturally significant sites, like the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, with an exciting service learning opportunity.

Program Structure: 

This program will offer a unique collaboration opportunity between students in the study abroad program and graduate students in UCF's Teaching English as a Foreign Language graduate program. Graduate students enrolled in TSL 6350 will collaborate to create an English language curricula, specially designed for an indigenous elementary school in Cusco, Peru. Students participating in the study abroad program will then deliver this English language curricula to the students of this school during two days of service learning activities at the Huillcapata School located in a rural village approximately 30 minutes outside of Cusco.

Throughout the week there will be excursions to various historical and archaeological treasures of Inca Empire including two-day trips, one to the Sacred Valley and the second to Machu Picchu.
Students on this program should plan to arrive in Cusco, Peru  on the starting day of the program in order to be included in the airport pickup.  Please note that most flights will have to leave Orlando on March 10 to arrive in Cusco by March 11.  Students should not to purchase their flights until they have been advised by Study Abroad to do so. Study Abroad advises that you book your flight directly with the airline.
