The UCF Latin American Studies Department offers a unique study abroad and internship program in Brazil. The academic program takes place at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP), which is a private and non-profit Catholic university and one of the largest and most prestigious in Brazil. It is maintained by the Catholic Archdiocese of São Paulo.
São Paulo is the perfect place for Latin American Studies students. Not only is it the largest city in Brazil, but it’s also the most developed business hub in Brazil. This unique program is designed for UCF students who would like to study courses at PUC-SP while gaining exposure to one of the most racially diverse countries in the world in a manageable and accessible setting.
Students take 4 courses taught in Portuguese or English at PUC-SP, for a total of 12 credits. The last course is an internship course worth 3 credits, administered by the UCF Latin American Studies program and the Office of Experiential Learning. The purpose of the internship is to provide students with a unique learning opportunity related to work experience in Brazil and give students an opportunity to apply the knowledge learned in academic courses to a workplace setting, while obtaining valuable global career skills. Students can earn 12 credits and apply these credits to the Latin American Studies degree programs (major and minor). Students can stay the whole academic year and earn a minor in Latin American Studies and International Business.
A Portuguese language class is also available, which is offered by PUC-SP’s Continuing Education Department for an additional fee.
Internship placements are possible in the EducationUSA Office in São Paulo. EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of over 400 international student advising centers in more than 170 countries. There is also an opportunity to intern in Marketing in the International Office at PUC-SP.
